75th Anniversary of VE Day Remember Amidst Lock Down
Spirits were high and mood buoyant as many across the nation celebrated VE day, which at the 75th anniversary, made more poignant by a virulent pandemic courtesy of the Covid-19 and the imposition of a UK wide lock down.
Celebrations whilst restricted, still rung true of what keeps the Great in our Britain. In the case of the one Brother from Porchway, and his family, representing two generations of veterans, two years on active service in Malaya in the 11th Hussars (the Cherry Pickers !!), and collectively five tours of Afghanistan for Tania and Brother Ian.
Tania whisking away in Service Dress to the NHS Hospital in East Grinstead as senior Officer on take the salute during a Spitfire fly past in some respects was the highlight of the day.
Flags raised … Navy ensign toward the rear, signifying Tania’s surgical role afloat.
The Union flag in the foreground, which was draped over the late RSM ER Harper’s coffin, veteran of Korea, Malaya and Borneo. For one family, another reason to remember.
The afternoon was finished off in fine British form with a tea, freshly baked cakes and sandwiches … cucumber snuck in somewhere … much to the disgust of the dog … definitely not a vegan !
It was very fitting and thought provoking our Monarch addressed the nation at the same time in the day her late father, and our King, made his address declaring war in Europe at and end and peace ruling supreme.
2 minutes silence remembering all those who have fallen, and those taken by Covid 19 … given freely with heart and emotion.
